Chalk Creek Boers Dispersal

After a heart wrenching decision, it is time to move on from the seedstock Boer business.  Due to Tom's new international consulting job, we have decided to disperse the flock.  We are grateful to everyone who has helped us along the way, it has been a great ride.  We also want to thank all those who have purchased a Chalk Creek Boer through the years, we couldn't have done this without you!  And we want to acknowledge all of the friends we have made along the way, we will keep you all in our hearts.

The dispersal will occur in several steps:

Part A - 2008 Platinum Alliance Sale in which all of our current show does and NK Nothin' But Butt yearling daughters were sold.

Part B - Internet Private Treaty sale of the foundation doe breeding flock, consisting of 60 head of fullblood does and 100 head commercial/recip does.   Pictures, Prices and Pedigrees  Semen for Sale!

Part C - Production sales in 2009.

NUSAA Joint Venture

So named to include all the countries of the partnership's origins, NUSAA is the culmination of input from breeders in Namibia, the USA and Australia.

Nusaa is a partnership whose American arm is based in Coalville, Utah with Tom and Carrie Boyer of Chalk Creek Boers,  Namibian partners Dirk Louw, Willie Coetzee, Oubaas Steenkamp and Ronnie Coleman and the ABS principles, Geof and Celia Burnett-Smith.

This partnership was developed to supply the American Boer goat industry with a number of new, elite genetic lines.

Nusaa has already conducted a live animal export (pictures) consisting of 20 superior quality animals to act as a prelude to a much larger export of 143 embryos which were implanted at Chalk Creek in 2007.

Donors for the embryo collection include the 2007 Australian National Grand Champion Buck, Terraweena Burger, the 2006 Australian National Grand Champion Doe, Terraweena 1450 and other famous sires such as Lazareth, Abraham, Chrome, Morris and Moshie (son of Moses).  An equal number of elite sires and dams from the Amani Stud are donors for this same collection, including Amani Rupert and representatives from the Amani Atlantis, Amani Lancelot and Amani Lazer bloodlines.

It is our belief that this breeding nucleus will reflect the quality of our stock to good advantage and better facilitate the growing demand that our company receives from the region.

These animals were selected by Geof and Celia Burnett-Smith, in conjunction with Dirk Louw and Willie Coetzee.  All animals were selected specifically to represent leading bloodlines from the individual studs, for breeding performance and for their overall quality.

The stock was moved to a quarantine facility in Melbourne following their appearance at the 2007 National Championships in Sydney, where they had competed strongly, proving they were well and truly amongst the country's best.

The Nusaa partnership is an exciting prospect for all those involved.  We look forward to providing the American Boer goat industry with a new alternative in elite stock in the coming months.

To register interest in these new genetics or for any general enquires, please contact Tom and Carrie Boyer (Utah, USA), or Geof and Celia Burnett-Smith (Queensland, Australia). For more information on Terraweena Stud and Amani Stud visit http://terraweena.com

Update: The Amani and Terraweena girls and guys made their long trip to their new home in the mountains of Utah on August 7th, 2007.  Leaving Australia in winter and spending several weeks in quarantine, the goats came with long hair coats and the need to gain  weight.  We are happy to report that they are adjusting great to their new surroundings and we are exceedingly pleased with their style, type and the potential they bring to the American Boer Goat industry.  Semen collection was done in October and semen is available on 9 bucks.  Embryos were born in March 2008 with a very pleasing success rate!  Feel free to call or email.  This is truly an exciting venture!

After a wonderful visit to Terraweena in December, I (Carrie) can honestly say that Celia and Geof have sent the best of what they have...we need to look no further than the NUSAA genetics!  These genetics offer us three different lines representing the best of Terraweena, Amani and their latest Lukas Burger imports sired by Ripper!  Combine these with our Chalk Creek Boers and we are truly blessed to "have it all"!

Our Mission

Providing leadership in genetic advancement of sheep and meat goat industries and assisting those with whom we work to reach their highest potential in profitability and enjoyment of life.

Our History

In the early 1850’s William Boyer arrived in the Salt Lake Valley from England.  As he was a coal miner and entrepreneur, Brigham Young sent him to Coalville to begin the development of coal mines.  Later his son, Joseph Henry discovered that he would rather work with livestock than mine coal, so he started large commercial herds of sheep and cattle.  Later his son, Joseph LaVern, found that you could survive the Great Depression if you both mined coal and raised livestock.  Livestock enterprises on the ranch have included Royal Blood Horse, a well known Quarter Horse racing entity; a hybrid herd of high production beef cattle, draft horses, and the famous Boyer Rambouillet flock that is well known in the United States a source flock for stud rams and ewes.  In 1992, Carrie Gibson, also a third generation sheep producer, became a full partner in Boyer Land and Livestock.  In 1994, Carrie purchased the first fullblood Boer buck and crossed him on the motley crew of fullblood Sannen nurse goats that had been a part of the sheep operation for years.  The first cross made us believers and fullblood Boer does were soon purchased.  Now the Boyer Boer flock, known as Chalk Creek Boers, consists of 350+ goats with over 100 of them being fullblood does.  Our commitment to the Boers is the same as it has been to the Rambouillets, ‘only the finest’!
